The Catholic Mirror September 23 1893

“The Catholic church for over one thousand years before the existence of a Protestant, by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday…

The Protestant World at its birth found the Christian Sabbath too strongly entrenched to run counter to its existence; it was therefore placed under the necessity of acquiescing in the arrangement, thus implying the (Catholic) Church’s right to change the day, for over three hundred years.

The Christian Sabbath is therefore to this day, the acknowledged offspring of the Catholic Church as spouse of the Holy Ghost, without a word of remonstrance from the Protestant World.”

James Cardinal Gibbons in the Catholic Mirror, September 23, 1983.

In March of 1893, the International Religious Liberty Association made a statement that caused quite a stir – namely, their tract entitled “Appeal and Remonstrance.” This prompted the editor of the Catholic Mirror of Baltimore to pen four pieces of his own for publication in September.

As this paper is backed by Cardinal Gibbons and the papacy itself, these articles are de facto official statements from the papal camp challenging Protestantism to explain why they keep Sunday and how they do so. You can read the whole publication here.

It seems that the Seventh-day Adventists and the Israelites are the only ones who keep the Sabbath as it is commanded in the Bible!

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8-11 KJV

Unfortunately, the other Protestant denominations are keeping a day that has nothing to do with the Bible or the Ten Commandments of God!

Sunday is a normal working day, and nowhere in the Bible are we instructed to keep this day holy!

Many interpret verses like “Lord’s Day” as Sunday, but this is pure speculation!

The Sabbath is on the seventh day of the week, Saturday!

Like always, the Bible explains itself!

Let’s see what the Word of God declares to be the “Lord’s day”!

If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Isaiah 58:13 KJV

Mark 2:28  Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Jesus never changed the Sabbath day nor the apostles!

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Mark 5:17-18 KJV

And His resurrection on Sunday does not make that day holy! Friday is equally important when our Saviour died on the cross!

He established baptism as commemorating His death and resurrection, not Sunday worship!

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:3-4 KJV

Sunday worship is nothing but the invention of Rome!

Those who want to follow God and His teachings must follow the Bible, and the Bible only!

And if we do not find in the Bible a single verse to honor and worship on Sunday, then it is not from God no matter how many people are adhering to this practice!

God says clearly in His Word, that whoever breaks one commandment is guilty of all!

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

James 2:10 KJV

Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Matthew 7:14 KJV

It’s up to every one of us whom we want to obey! Do we listen to God’s commandments or man’s tradition?

The choice is ours!
