sabbath in heaven bible verse

Sabbath in Heaven Bible Verse

The Sabbath will be celebrated for ever and ever. This is what the verse Isaiah 66:23 is telling us.

And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.

Isaiah 66:23  KJV

On the New Earth which God will create after He will destroy sin and sinners, the Sabbath will be kept forever.

God created the Sabbath after the six literal days, and He made the Sabbath His fourth commandment. (Genesis 2:2-3), (Exodus 20:8-11)

Those who will be saved at the second coming of Jesus, will keep the Sabbath in Heaven for 1000 years, and after the New Earth is recreated. (Isaiah 66:23, Revelation 20:4; 21:1-5.

Will the Sabbath continue in heaven?

Yes, the Sabbath will continue in Heaven. When God created the Sabbath, He wrote it on stones as the fourth commandment for a reason.

And Isaiah 66:23 tells us exactly that. Those who will be saved will continue to keep the Sabbath and give glory to God throughout eternity.

Are we going to worship in heaven?

Yes, the redeemed will worship God in Heaven alongside the angels. God will restore peace and harmony in all the Universe after sin and sinners are destroyed.

When did Christians stop keeping the Sabbath?

Christians stop keeping the Sabbath gradually. They moved from keeping the Sabbath to keeping Sunday. The complete change came around the second century.

Then in 321 AD, Constantine, the Emperor of Rome, enacted the first Sunday law.

Years later, in 365 AD, the Council of Laodicea made it illegal to work on the Sabbath and Sunday worship was encouraged as well.

Their arguments were not from the Bible though because Jesus, or the apostles never changed the Sabbath.

Rather, Sunday worship was in honor of Sun.

What does Jesus say about Sabbath?

Jesus says about the Sabbath that it was made for man. (Mark 2:27)

He also declared the Sabbath was made for doing good to others. (Matthew 12:12)

He also kept the Sabbath while He was on Earth.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

Luke 4:16 KJV

He also declared He came not to change the Law or the prophets but to fulfil the Law.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:17-19 KJV

What does Revelation say about the Sabbath?

Revelation says the Sabbath will be the great subject in the last battle between truth and error, between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. (Revelation 7:2-3), (Revelation 13), (Revelation 14:6-11).

Conclusion

The Sabbath will be kept in Heaven by those who will be saved. God created the Sabbath as a memorial of His creative and redemptive powers. (Genesis 2:2-3, Ezekiel 20:12,20).

He made the Sabbath the fourth commandment. He never changed it nor abolished it.

Thus, the ones who will be saved for eternity will keep the Sabbath forever as it is written in Isaiah 66:23.
