What are the rules of the Sabbath day? What you can and can’t do according to the fourth commandment on the holy day of God? Was the seventh day Sabbath meant to be a burden or a delight? Have people added more rules to the law of God? What do we need to know to observe the Sabbath the correct way as God intended?
In this post, we will break down the rules of the Sabbath day! There might be some confusion about what you can and cannot do on the seventh day of the week, the holy day of God! Thus, we propose to shed some light on this matter by the grace of God, and to see the day of rest as it is and as it should be – a delight and not a burden!
What is the Sabbath Day?
The Sabbath day is the fourth commandment of God that is found in the Bible!
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:Exodus 20:8-11 KJV
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
The Sabbath was made long before the Exodus of the people of Israel from Egypt, at the beginning of time, when God created this world! After the six literal creation days, He established the Sabbath as the day of rest and worship, to remember our origins, and remember our Creator! It is on the 7th day of the week and not on the first day of the week as many believe!
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Genesis 2:2-3 KJV
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
What are the Rules of the Sabbath day in the Bible?
The rules of the Sabbath day in the Bible are simple! We are to do no work on that day, nor our own pleasures or hobbies, study or commerce activities! (Deuteronomy 5:12-14), (Isaiah 58:13-14).

What are we allowed to do on the Sabbath day?
We can enjoy nature, the creation of God on this holy day! If we love nature (who doesn’t?), this day is perfect to go out in nature with family or friends and admire the wonderful creation of God!
Because during the week we are so busy and focused on our daily life and activities, the Sabbath is a good time to stop and admire everything God has created! Walk in beautiful nature and it would be impossible to not find something to uplift your mood!
Beautiful birds, colorful flowers with their special odor, cute animals, mountains, fields, blue skies, and a diversity of trees! Stop and admire them because everything came from the powerful hand of God Almighty! (Psalms 24:1).
Think about His greatness and meditate on the creation days! (Psalms 33:9, John 1:1-3, Genesis 1). And what other day to explore these things than the special holy Sabbath day?

Unfortunately, the Pharisees of the times when Jesus lived, made the Sabbath a burden for people, but God did not intend to be that way! (Matthew 12:1-14)
