The Sabbath is mentioned 137 times in 116 verses in the King James Bible.
This counting is done with the eSword app. Some extra verses may mention the word “seventh day” instead of Sabbath like in Genesis and Exodus.
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Genesis 2:2-3 KJV
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Exodus 20:8-11 KJV
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
What is the true Sabbath day according to the Bible?
The true Sabbath day according to the Bible is Saturday, the seventh day of the week. (Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 20:8-11)
Who changed the Sabbath to Sunday?
The Sabbath was first changed by the Roman Emperor Constantine in 321 AD, when he made the first known Sunday law.
Later on, in the Council of Laodicea, the Roman Church also made this change. All this was done without any Scripture authority.
Did Jesus abolish the Sabbath day?
Never. Despite what many are saying, Jesus never abolished the Sabbath. He came to fulfil the Law.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:17-19 KJV
He did not change the Sabbath either. There is no commandment in the New Testament to keep Sunday in honour of His resurrection as many think.
This doctrine is not from the Bible.
The Sabbath was always on the seventh day of the week, and it will always be.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
