There are no Bible verses that prove Sunday is the Sabbath. The Scriptures tell us there is only one Sabbath – Saturday, the seventh day of the week. (Exodus 20:8-11)
Unfortunately, the majority of Christians are worshipping today on Sunday. But Sunday is a normal working day, and was not blessed nor sanctified by God like the seventh day was.
There are clear Bible verses that prove Saturday is the real Sabbath and God never changed His Holy Law.
He wrote the Ten Commandments in stone for a reason, and the Sabbath is the fourth commandment.
Where in the Bible does it say the Sabbath is Sunday?
Nowhere in the Bible does it say the Sabbath is Sunday. The Bible teaches that Saturday or the seventh day is the Sabbath.
Genesis 2:2-3 KJV And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Exodus 20:8-11 KJV Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Does the Bible change the Sabbath to Sunday?
No, the Bible did not change the Sabbath to Sunday. This change was made by man, and not by God. (Daniel 7:25)
God made the Ten Commandments and wrote them in stone for a reason. He cannot change His holy Law which is eternal. (Exodus 31:18)
There is not a single verse in the Bible authorising the change of the Sabbath.
Sunday worship is a tradition of man and has nothing to do with God and His Commandments.
Did God start creation on Sunday?
Yes, God started creation on Sunday or the first day of the week. (Genesis 1:5, Matthew 28:1).
What does Jesus say about Sunday?
Jesus did not say anything about Sunday because there is nothing special about this day.
Instead, he kept holy the seventh day, the Sabbath while He was on Earth. He also healed many people and did many good deeds on the Sabbath. (Matthew 12:9-13, Luke 13:10-17, John 5:1-18).
Luke 4:16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
KJV
Some may think that Sunday is holy because Jesus rose on that day. But we do not find such commandment in the Bible.
Friday is equally important because it is the day when Jesus died on the cross. Thus, He established baptism in commemoration of His death and resurrection. (Romans 6:3-4).
Which day is the true Sabbath?
The true Sabbath is on the seventh day of the week, Saturday. (Exodus 20:8-11, Genesis 2:2-3, Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:1-2, Luke 23:53-56).
Why do Christians worship on Sunday instead of Saturday?
Christians worship on Sunday instead of Saturday because they have been convinced that the Sabbath was changed.
Yet, there is not a single verse in the Bible to support this change. It is a man made tradition and it does not come from the Bible.
Where are the Bible verses supporting this teaching? We either obey God and His Commandments or man and their teachings. We cannot serve two masters.
People should study for themselves the Scriptures with fervent prayer and ask God humbly and sincerely to show them the truth from the Bible.
Those who claim the Sabbath was changed, are using arguments like Sunday is the new Sabbath because Jesus rose on that day. Other verses they use are Colossians 2:16, Romans 14:5. But these are not talking about the seventh day Sabbath, but the feast sabbaths from Leviticus 23:4-44.
When did Christians start worshiping on Sunday?
While Sunday worship became increasingly common, it’s important to note that this shift was gradual and not universally adopted immediately.
The change was solidified in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. In 321 AD, Roman Emperor Constantine I issued a decree making Sunday a day of rest, further establishing the practice in civil law.
Did Jesus observe the Sabbath on Sunday?
Jesus did not observe the Sabbath on Sunday. He observed the Sabbath on Saturday, the seventh day of the week as the commandments say. (Luke 4:16)
He also told everyone He came not to change the Law but to fulfill it.
Matthew 5:17-19 KJV Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
His death on the cross proves the fact that God’s Law cannot be changed. If it were for the Law to be changed, then Jesus did not need to come and die on the cross.
God’s Ten Commandments are the foundation of His eternal government.
Conclusion
To conclude, there are no Bible verses that prove Sunday to be the Sabbath. Instead, the Word of God shows us the seventh day of the week is and will always be the Sabbath that God blessed and sanctified. (Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 20:8-11, Isaiah 66:23)
The final choice is ours – do we listen to God’s Word or man’s teachings?
Let us obey God and His commandments for it is written:
Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
