Why is Church on Sunday Instead of the Sabbath

Why is Church on Sunday Instead of the Sabbath?

Why is Church on Sunday Instead of the Sabbath? Unfortunately, people have been misled to think that the first day of the week is holy.

They came up with the idea that the Sabbath is now on Sunday, the first day of the week, instead of Saturday, the seventh day of the week.

But they lack Bible evidence for this change. It does not exist. They try to attribute Sunday holiness to Christ’s resurrection on that day.

But there is no Bible verse teaching us that.

While many people are sincere and want to follow God, they do what they know best.

However, they must know the truth about Sunday. Nothing is holy about Sunday, no matter how many people are keeping it.

What day is the true Sabbath?

The Bible is clear. The seventh day is the Sabbath. We find it in the Bible.

Genesis 2:2-3 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Exodus 20:8-11  Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Is the Lord’s day Saturday or Sunday?

The Lord’s day is Saturday and not Sunday.

Isaiah 58:13  If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:

Mark 2:28  Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

Revelation 1:10  I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

The Bible says the Sabbath is the Lord’s day. But some misinterpret it and conclude that the Lord’s day is the first day or Sunday. But the Bible does not say anything about that.

When it talks about the Lord’s Day or the day of the Lord it refers to the Sabbath or the seventh day of the week.

Does the Bible say that Sunday is the Sabbath?

Nowhere in the Scriptures do we find a clear statement for Sunday to be the Sabbath. People have their interpretation but if you study carefully the Bible, you won’t see any evidence for Sunday being the Sabbath.

I challenge you to read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and if you find any verse that says Sunday is holy, please contact us, and we will edit this and many other posts.

Not only that but the first day of the week is mentioned only 8 times in the New Testament. Whereas the Sabbath is mentioned 60 times.

Why was the Sabbath changed to Sunday?

The Sabbath was “changed” to Sunday not by God’s authority, but by man. In their councils, popes and bishops of Rome decided to change it to Sunday.

It was first done by Emperor Constantine of Rome in 321 AD, followed by the Roman Church in 363 AD in the Council of Laodicea.

This change was prophesied in the Bible in Daniel 7:25

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Daniel 7:25 KJV

Here is talking about none other than the persecuting power of the Papacy.

Which Pope Changed the Sabbath to Sunday?

History tells us that Pope Eusebius and Pope Sylvester in agreement with Emperor Constantine of Rome changed the Sabbath to Sunday.

“All things whatsoever that it was duty to do on the Sabbath, these we have transferred to the Lord’s Day [Sunday].” The “we” to whom he refers are Constantine, Pope Sylvester, and such bishops as himself.

What does the Bible say about Church on Sunday?

Nowhere in the Bible are we encouraged to go to Church on Sunday. This is a pagan day and has nothing to do with the holy Sabbath of the Lord.

It all depends on who we want to serve, God or man. If we want to follow God and His teachings, they are in His Word.

With diligent study and prayer, God can show us through His Word everything we need to know to be saved.

We cannot fully rely on others to study for us, but we must ourselves search the Scriptures to make sure we are in accord with God and His will.

People make mistakes, that’s why is better to search for ourselves, because it is about the most important subject of our lives – the salvation of our souls.

We can’t let this matter in the hands of others!

Where in the Bible does it say to go to Church on Saturday?

In Leviticus, we find the importance of going to Church on the Sabbath.

Leviticus 23:3  Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

Where in the Bible does it say to keep Sunday holy?

Nowhere in the Bible do we find such a commandment. This is the teaching of man and has nothing to do with God or His commandments.

The Ten Commandments are written in stone for a reason. To prove they are unchangeable.

Jesus came into this world and died for our sins because our first parents broke His commandments.

The fact that He came to die for us, is proof that the Law cannot be changed. If it were possible, then He would have simply changed the Law, and it would not have been necessary to die on the cross.

God is not like us, to change like we do.

Conclusion

In conclusion, to answer the question of why is Church on Sunday instead of the Sabbath is simple.

It is because people have been taught that Sunday is holy, and that the Sabbath was changed.

It is unfortunate that today when we have so easy access to the Bible, we rely on others for our salvation.

Why don’t we read it ourselves, with prayer and with a humble heart to know the will of God?

The enemy of our souls must only make us break one commandment and we are guilty of all. (James 2:10)

Don’t be deceived! The Sabbath was never changed. Jesus kept it while He was on Earth, and the apostles also. (Luke 4:16), (Acts 13:42,44, 16:13, 17:2, 18:4).

And today, the Sabbath is still important and to be kept as it was since its very beginning.

In Revelation 13, the last great battle between truth and error involves worship. The Sabbath will be involved as the decisive factor for those who will be saved and those who will be lost.

Let us make a wise decision today, and follow God and His commandments, even if we are the minority. (John 14:15)
