Which is Sabbath Sunday or Saturday?

The Sabbath is on Saturday according to the Bible, or the seventh day of the week.

Even though many Christians are honoring Sunday today, it does not have any biblical support.

The Sabbath was established by God after the creation days. He blessed and sanctified the seventh day. (Genesis 2:2-3)

God is expecting us to honor His Sabbath on the seventh day as He created it.

Does the Bible say Sunday is the Sabbath?

Nowhere in the Bible do we find a verse saying that Sunday is the Sabbath.

Unfortunately, people have their interpretations and some have concluded that if Jesus rose on Sunday, then it is the new Sabbath.

But we do not find this statement in the Scriptures. And how are we, to change the Holy Law of God?

Other interpretations are given to some verses from the Bible like Acts 20:7

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.

Act 20:7 KJV

First of all, the disciples were breaking bread every day. (Acts 2:46)

In those times, the day would begin at sunset and end at sunset. (Leviticus 23:32)

And if Sunday was holy, how come Paul was “getting ready to depart on the morrow”? Is that something you would do on the holy day of the Lord? Traveling? I don’t think so.

And we do not see any clear statement or the Sabbath to be changed, because it was not.

The apostles were keeping the Sabbath, the same as Jesus did. (Acts 13:42,44, 16:13, 17:2, 18:4), (Luke 4:16).

Why did the Sabbath change from Saturday to Sunday?

The Sabbath was changed from Saturday to Sunday by man, and not by God. God predicted this change would take place in Daniel 7:25.

And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Daniel 7:25

Here, it speaks about the Papacy, which in the Council of Laodicea in 363 AD, decided to change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday.

This was done without any biblical authority.

The Catholic Church declares:

‘Deny the authority of the Church and you have no adequate or reasonable explanation or justification for the substitution of Sunday for Saturday in the Third – Protestant Fourth – Commandment of God… The Church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact.’

Catholic Record, September 1, 1923.

This is why we have so much confusion in the Christian world and so many denominations.

Because people are laying aside the Word of God and inventing their religion, with their traditions, and laws.

The Bible says about this act:

Mark 7:7  Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Mark 7:9  And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Did God say the Sabbath is on Saturday?

Yes, God declared that the Sabbath is on Saturday.

Exodus 20:10  But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

Matthew 28:1  In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Matthew 28:6  He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

As we can see from the above verses, the Sabbath day is followed by the first day, which means the Sabbath is on the seventh day.

Every Church and historians agree that Jesus rose on Sunday, the first day of the week.

When did Sunday become the day of worship?

In the early days, the true Sabbath was cherished by all Christians, who were steadfast in upholding the sanctity of God’s unchanging law. Despite this, with cunning strategy, Satan schemed to shift the focus onto Sunday.

This day, initially designated as a festival honoring Christ’s resurrection, gradually evolved into a time of both religious observance and leisure, while the Sabbath remained sacredly revered.

To pave the way for his sinister plan, Satan had earlier burdened the Sabbath with strict regulations through the Jewish leaders. Exploiting the negative perception he had cultivated, he then sought to discredit it as merely a Jewish custom.

Christians, in their zeal to distance themselves from Judaism, transformed the Sabbath from a day of joy to one of fasting and sorrow.

Constantine’s Sunday Law – Is Sabbath Sunday or Saturday?

In the fourth century, Emperor Constantine decreed Sunday a public holiday across the Roman Empire. This move aimed to appease both his pagan subjects and the Christians, aligning their interests.

Influenced by ambitious bishops seeking power and unity, Constantine’s decision sought to blend heathen practices with Christian traditions.

Despite the growing reverence for Sunday among many Christians, there remained a faithful remnant who continued to honor the true Sabbath in obedience to God’s commandment.

Conclusion – Which is Sabbath Sunday or Saturday

To conclude the question of which is Sabbath Sunday or Saturday we declare the following:

The truth is the Sabbath was never changed by God, Jesus, or the apostles. Those who claim otherwise are missing the most important evidence – Bible verses.

Read for yourself all the New Testament, and see if there is any statement made by Jesus or the apostles in regards to changing the Sabbath.

You will find none because it does not exist.

God never changes, and His Law is unchangeable. That’s why it was written in stone. It is the foundation of His government.

Sunday is simply the creation of man. And no matter how many interpretations people may have, it does not change anything.

The Sabbath is on Saturday, the seventh day of the week, and it will always be.

Everyone must decide whom they obey. God’s laws or man’s teachings?

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
